Reading the natal astrological chart is often the first reading I do for a client. It covers past life issues, rewards from past lives, and how a person can make their present life function smoothly given this karmic history. This reading generally needs to be done only once. The whole point of this reading is to pause, to step back, and to look at the Great Journey you are on.

So here you are. You're incarnate in human form (again). You are continuing your journey in the material plane.

By now you've figured out your life is not just some random existential blip which flickers and then is extinguished. Your present life is part of a long continuum of existence which began so long and ago and far away that you likely have forgotten that singular burst of creation which resulted in you coming into existence.

Since then your journey has slalomed through many lives and has brought you today to your current incarnation, the sum total of what you are, what you have achieved and what you hope to achieve. If you feel like a work in progress, then welcome to the human race.

From one life to the next you have brought your lessons (learned and unlearned), your skills (mastered and partially mastered), and your desire to grow (fulfilled and unfulfilled).

Through it all weaves the great themes of wisdom, love, compassion, sharing, finding, and achieving your goals. Sometimes the little goals lead to the big ones, and sometimes the big goals make the little goals easier to attain.

Your natal astrological chart is a most remarkable document. It is your personal repository of all of this: your spiritual recordkeeper AND road map all rolled up into one tidy package.

This reading explores these themes, The Big Picture. It also explores whatever day-to-day themes are important to you, ie, career, relationships, etc.

Often issues appearing in your life right now are the catalyst for your inquiry. If something in life has got your goat, pulled your cord, or pushed your buttons, maybe this isn't a problem. Maybe it's something else.

Maybe this is your opportunity to grab onto some of the unfinished business and conclude it constructively.

That's why we look at what energies are coming into your life and when (transits and progressions in astrological jargon). These show the timing of windows of opportunity. Just when is the right time to take off and fly in a new direction? What sort of preparation work is required to do so?

You have free choice and will select any future you want, but it helps to know when the cosmic winds are blowing in the right direction for you.

In Karmic Astrology we assume you already know what sort of person you are but are now wondering how that came to happen and what can be done about it. Wouldn't it be nice to know you can seek and find a solution? But get ready for Lesson One: often it isn't quite what you first expected.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A READING?

It starts with your natal astrological chart.

Part of the reading involves taking a detailed look at the astrological chart from a past life perspective.

A standard astrological chart (tropical zodiac, placidus houses) with considerable additional information is used. But I read it a differently than conventional astrologers.

The astrological chart is like a spiritual balance sheet. It shows assets and liabilities, accounts payable and accounts receivable coming from. That's not as crude a metaphor as it might first seemthis is the kind of information contained in every natal chart.

We'll look at the rewards you're bringing into your present life from your past lives. A lot of people have never thought about that, and yet those rewards are there every day for you, but they are different for everyone.

Likewise the chart also shows our unfinished business, which is why we are all here. We all have unfinished business. Now that does not mean something horrible is going to happen. On the contrary. Ultimately, we are all here to do something wonderful.

But which part of that wonderful are we here to do this time?

So your chart is not only your scorecard of how you have worked on your issues in past lives, it is also your potential game plan for getting this life right.

WHAT ABOUT PREDICTIONS?

We also look into the future to examine the potential unfolding of the energies in the chart, but this is NOT with the idea of predicting events.

You have free choice. You will choose your future. Period.

However, what we can do is look at when windows of opportunity will be opening for you to make use of the energies in your chart at their most positive and constructive times; for your chart shows your high spiritual path in life if you wish to follow it.

If a marvellous window of opportunity to walk on your spiritual path opens up and you do nothing, then nothing happens. On the other hand, if you choose to do the preparation for the open window, then you can spread your wings and fly in life if you wish.

Sometimes people in a crises are in the middle of a wonderful window of opportunity but don't know it yet. In general a "crises" is simply an unrecognized window of opportunity for exceptional spiritual growth.

Maybe that feeling of "SPLAT!" is just a wake-up call. Blessing sometimes are wrapped in the most unusual, unlikely, and sometimes uncomfortable circumstances.

SPECIFIC PAST LIVES

A second aspect of the reading often is of interest to many people. Having been given the gift to see past lives, images of clients' past lives sometimes come spontaneously to me during the reading. There is no hypnosis or regression involved of any sort.

The past lives which come up reflect the information in the natal chart and often are incarnations you may not yet be aware of but need to be aware of given the context of the information coming forward in the chart and the reading.

The past lives may be recent or very, very ancient or a mix. Past lives often involve you as a VERY different personality than you are today. Events also are very different than your present life. Everyone is unique.

Sometimes people you knew in past lives are back with you again in this life, but in a much different role. Understanding the change in roles is often helpful to understanding a complex relationship.

Time often limits us to brief summaries highlighting the major points, but separate later appointment(s) afterwards are available for those wishing to explore a given incarnation in lengthy detail from birth to passing.

The whole of idea of looking at past lives is not to do a tourist trip so you can say "Well, I was here" or "I was there".

The idea is to put your present life in context. In the same way today makes sense because you know what has happened over the last few days, so too does your present life make sense when we know the high points from your significant past lives.

If there are things you have done right in the past, it makes sense to keep doing them right. If there's a correction or two to be made, it makes sense to get on with making the correction.

But let's also keep a wise perspective. The most important life you have is the one you are living right now, and the most important thing you can be doing with your life is getting it rightright now. The reading is designed to give you information to help you do that.
